Wines of the WeekWHITEBOX - Heathcote - CABERNET SAUVIGNON MERLOT 2004The 2004 WhiteBox Heathcote Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot is dark crimson in colour, with aromas of ripe summer berries, chocolate and cedar. The palate is rich and full-bodied, displaying flavours of plum, leather and well-integrated French oak, with persistent mouth-filling tannins. Grapes for WhiteBox wines are sourced from the company’s vineyard in the renowned Heathcote wine region and fashioned with respect to terroir and tradition. Drinking well now, the wine will continue to develop in bottle for the next few years.
MICANUSI - HEATHCOTE 2008 SHIRAZ Micanusi 2008 Shiraz is produced using quality grapes selected from the much sought after Heathcote region in Central Victoria. The grapes for this wine were harvested before the heat wave hit Victoria ensuring the fruit was in optimimum condition, with balanced sugars, acids and flavours. The grapes were fermented at cool temperatures to retain the vibrant berry fruit flavours. The wine then spent six months in French Oak. This gives the wine a delicate oak influence together with subtle tannins make the wine a smooth drinking shiraz. Drink well now, this wine will continue to develop in the bottle for the next 5-7 years. Flavours of plums, red cherries, mineral tones and spice.
***TAHBILK ALWAYS A WINNER*** There is no mistaking the 2005 vintage release as a Tahbilk Shiraz – a deep red/magenta colour in the glass, aromas of plums & spice with background peppery hints lead to a solidly constructed palate of blackberry, plum and anise fruits with firm but not overly intrusive tannins on the finish. A rock solid wine that will please the faithful as well as leading new converts to the Tahbilk Shiraz altar! I intend worshipping a few bottles now with Grilled Double Lamb Chops or perhaps Pasta with Prosciutto, Cheese and Sage but I would also recommend leaving a few for later pilgrimages. ![]() |
